Winter and the New Season

Winter is here, or at least it seems to be. The new year is right around the corner, and the pace of LIFE will change again. Sometimes it really is hard to keep up, and then if you manage to, something sneaks in to just let you know....nope! In reflection, it is a bittersweet blend, and accepting that is often the point of our joy, making it a wonderful time of year. Full schedules, undeniable pull of family, friends, and festive cheer. Gourmet dinners love those. FaceTime with your family... can be interesting, or you can catch up with friends with a quick note in a card or text. At the end of the day, It's about being present when you can, not doing it all.

A way to navigate all of it can be to plan around what really matters to you. Do you love big family dinners, or is it the quiet moments decorating the tree with your partner? Knowing what fills your heart makes it easier to say no to things that don't. It's not about being Scrooge; it's about saving your energy for what counts.

Flexibility is your best friend for those with packed work schedules (hello, medical professionals). Maybe your "Christmas dinner" happens on a random Tuesday night, or your gift exchange with friends turns into a New Year's celebration. The calendar is just a suggestion—what matters is the intention behind the time you spend together.

Now, let's talk about celebrations at work because, let's face it, the hospital or clinic often becomes a second home during this time. Potlucks, secret Santa exchanges, or even a quick "ugly sweater" contest can bring a little holiday spirit to your shift. Whether sneaking in a cozy evening with your favorite holiday movie, enjoying a warm drink in a quiet corner, or indulging in an extra hour of sleep, those small "me time" moments are golden.

Then as there is the care for patients who may not get to go home for the holidays, remember the power of simple kindness. Happy holidays, everyone!
