Spring Is Here, says the Calender… Yep

So, can you believe it? Winter is out of the way, and hopefully, the weather will cooperate with some continuous sun to pump up our moods and finally let us toss the heavy coats. The sun's still up when leaving your shift…, but slipping in the parking lot could be because of spring rain, and spending way too much time figuring out how to layer under scrubs is a thing of the past.

So take a deep breath, "You survived. Now it's time for a little fun."

Okay, what about those favorite pair of winter socks or that sad bag of cough drops from January? It's okay; let them go. Toss the single glove, the expired protein shake, and that mystery Tupperware that might better be used in the research lab science experiment. Winter clutter is so last season.

And while we are at it—the toss of the pitch of the emotional gunk, too, is a great idea. You know… guilt for not meal prepping, the stress from that one shift that went sideways, the voice in your head saying you should be doing more when you're already doing everything. Let it go. Spring is about starting fresh, not carrying winter's baggage into May or June.

Spring Fun, Medical Edition

You don't need a week off or a trip to the tropics to feel lighter. Start small. Maybe on your day off, you grab a coffee and sit outside for five minutes—no alarms, charting, or IV pumps beeping in your brain. Take a walk in a local park and listen to something that's not a medical podcast (unless it makes you laugh, in which case, carry on).

Start planning a little summer fun, even if it's just a long weekend or a backyard BBQ with your crew. Sometimes, half the joy is in the anticipation. Picture yourself with no cell, no night shift, just you and something grilled on a paper plate.

If you're working those long shifts, bring spring with you. Pack a lunch that isn't beige. Swap your heavy fleece for something bright. Even stick a tiny plant on the windowsill of the staff room if they'll let you. Or, dare I say it, rotate your badge reel to something cheerful and seasonal—nobody said professionalism couldn't include a tiny smiling sun.

And if your spring joy looks like planting flowers, bike rides, or binge-watching something hilarious in clean pajamas—yes. Do that.

Just Breathe. And Look Forward.

You've made it through another tough season. You kept people alive, kept the floors running, kept your humor (mostly), and kept going even when it felt like you couldn't. Let this season be your soft landing. Allow yourself to laugh more, stretch a little, and start dreaming about the days ahead.
